The natural white tacking thread is an easily breakable thread for basting textiles. If can be used to baste fabrics together temporarily for trying on, instead of holding them together with pins. In a second step the fabric can be pinned and finally the garment can be worked. When the work is completed, the tacking thread is simply removed from the completed seam. It is made from 100% cotton and can easily be unpicked, because of its low tensile strength. The basting thread is available in 200 m length on a plastic roll.
Tacking thread is thicker and softer than the thread used for final sewing. It is off-white in colour and allows for temporary sewing before the final stitching.
Easy to use, it can be removed without damaging your creations!
Basting is a temporary stitch used in tailoring that is done by hand or machine.
To baste, the stitches, replacing the final ones, must be sewn with wider strokes and spaces.
Once the basted pattern has been tried and tested, the final stitching can be carried out, and the basting stitches must then be removed with a seam ripper or thread scissors. Basting
is usually done with a thread that is thicker and softer than the one used for the final stitching, in an ecru colour that takes its name from its use: basting thread.
